Sewing in all its forms

Do you need help understanding patterns, sizing garments to fit, putting in zips, hemming, mending, or making garments. This could be the workshop for you, with Christine Finlayson.

Workshop from 10am - 4pm on Thursday 5th November 2026.
Workshops will be held at the The Old Bakehouse Gallery/Tearoom, High Street, Aberlady, East Lothian, EH32 0RB

Christine says:- I am a Textile Artist coming from a dressmaking background. I tutor dressmaking in both Penicuik and Stirling, as well as being involved in the Carbon Neutral workshops involving remakes.
In 2003 I attended Jewel and Esk Valley College in Edinburgh, completing a short course in Historical Heirlooms for which I was awarded a Highly Commended Certificate. Wanting to further my embroidery journey further I embarked on a City & Guilds Creative Embroidery Diploma Course at Edinburgh Telford College for the next three years. I then joined Stitch Business to do a Masterclass in Durham. I also attended a master class in Cambridge to further my ambition to keep learning.
I have been teaching dressmaking, pattern cutting, trouser making etc at Pembertons' sewing centre in Stirling for the past 25 years.

Requirements list:
Bring along your project - Pattern, fabric, thread and suitable interfacing.
Any repairs to garments - hems, zip replacements, etc.
Christine will be happy to help you with any project.
Please bring your sewing kit and sewing machine with pedal (also including a zipper foot if you require advice on zips).
Refreshments will be available all day, please bring a packed lunch.
Christine will email you prior to the workshop date to establish what you wish help with.
